Eric/Rico

Seal’s “Violet”

Eric The work of Eric/Rico (E/R) is altogether inspiring and soul stirring. By carefully exposing the frailties of the human condition, he infuses his sensual and compelling art forms with unrequited love. The sublime passion captured in his poetry is breathtaking, often leaving one awestruck and wanting for more. His short stories explore various topics, with some works being graphic portrayals of fear, pain and death whereas others offer tender and sentimental tales of love and happiness.

Tackling topics that create critical interaction, E/R’s word art ultimately encourages growth. His mastery of the craft is apparent and one quickly senses the ease with which his words naturally flow together to form a lasting effect. A recipient of the Gwendolyn Brooks Award for Poetry, his work has been featured in the journal Warpland as well as other publications.

An eclectic individual who raises the consciousness of his audience, E/R’s startling clarity has gained the appreciation of many with his visual art work currently being displayed in various Chicago venues. His web-site is innovative and enlightening and boasts visitors from around the world. All who are privileged enough to experience E/R’s art are left with a positive impression of his consummate expression.

p.s. He did arm wrestle Ghandi…and won. Mother Theresa sought his advice on how to be more altruistic…Nelson Mandela considers his counsel invaluable…and Pres. Bush wishes he could be half the man E/R is…oh, let me not forget, he is a bleeding romantic focused on challenging the mind that doesn’t think for itself…he may tickle your funny bone or make your eyes water and will frequently ask, “are you happy yet?”

Daawee

“The Big Payback” by James Brown

Daawee Daawee has a gift for teaching. His keen insight into the truth behind the propaganda and willingness to share crucially relevant information with his community inspires his investigative reporting. Always looking for a way to expose lies and deceit in a way that motivates his audience to change their way of considering the information presented to them, he is a dedicated soldier in a new army of individuals each doing their part in attacking the cancer of apathy that has infiltrated the soul of our community. Daawee is a “street surgeon” whose medical degree and degree in philosophy have been earned from his everyday experiences and interaction with everyday people. He is not one who needs validation from those in ivory towers to tell him “what is” and “what is not.” He’s in touch and is sharing in an authentic manner his truth and the truth of his community.

With strong ties to his community, he is true to where he comes from and would prefer to stay and act within the community than try and talk about relevant issues from afar like many so-called community leaders. His blog entries are intended to open the mind, re-educate and provide insight into the goings on in the world. A dynamic speaker and passionate activist, he is a socially conscious brother whose intensely intellectual viewpoints testify to the fact that he cares deeply about his community and the people therein.

“Hello Sistas”

“I’m talking to all of my coco-butter queens,
You gorgeous grandmothers, mothers,
daughters, aunties and girlfriends,
All of you are fabulously elegant sistas.
With your wonderful strength in the face of adversity
You are beyond patient with us brothas that are struggling
With self, society, the streets trying to figure out how
you find the courage
To keep loving us unconditionally.
I’m talking to the educated sistas that have lost faith in us brothas,
Those of you that have transformed to fall
in love with another type of brotha,
I could never be mad at you, yet I’m inspired
cause
as the brothas continue to pull up
their bootstraps and the soldiers begin
to secure the communities,
You’ll be back happier than the day you ran away taking
your love and support.
Hello you single mothers, the most beautiful sistas,
who take hold of your situation and make good
with the hand you’re dealt, playing the game to win,
I don’t always agree with your style but you must
protect your pride, joy, and your heart.
To all you young sistas,
I want you to know the brothas
are here and we’re gonna stay around
With arms wide open whether holding down
the block in order
to hold up the neighborhood, we are out
here working two 9 to 5’s in order
to make your dreams
come true. We are in college to bring the mental wealth
home,
We’re the brothas waiting to share the world
with our gorgeous sistas,
Sincerely, One Brotha of Millions
of Brothas that are Right Here!!!”
